Catgut Paddle on News 19's Daybreak Catgut Paddle is gearing up for this Saturday, July 22nd at Veteran's Freedom Park, Clinton Street, La Crosse, WI. The City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry will host a 14-mile Canoe Kayak Race, 4-mile Fun Paddle Sponsored by J.F. Brennan, paddleboard yoga, paddleboard jousting, Guided Birding Paddle Sponsored by Explore La Crosse, and kids mini paddle, all taking place on the water. On land, festivities continue with a Food Truck Court, craft brews, yard games, inflatable jousting, Outdoor Expo, KidZone Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System, Live Music with Space Heaters and People Brothers Band Sponsored by Advertising Concepts, Kayak Giveaway Sponsored by Island Outdoors, giveaway prizes for registrants and additional giveaway for anyone who registers at the event, and SeeDoo giveaway…

Catgut Paddle is excited to announce the addition of a FREE Children's Open Paddle! For one hour, kids can take a turn at first come, first serve 15-minute paddles in between playing at the KidZone Sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System or snacking at the Food Truck Court. The entire event, hosted by City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry will be held on July 22, 2017 at Veteran's Freedom Park, Clinton Street, La Crosse, WI. The La Crosse Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department is seeking volunteers for the 1st Annual Catgut Paddle on July 22, 2017. Volunteer opportunities will be available on Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22. Volunteer opportunities include: Registration Table, Event Set Up, Runners, Boat Handlers, Water Course Marshalls, and Clean Up Crew. Despite efforts in 1961 to have the Catgut Slough name changed, locals still use the title endearingly. Businesses have even adopted Catgut in their namesakes. Officially, a map may show Richmond Bay as the official name, but we still call it Catgut Slough 'round here. The Catgut Paddle committee is gearing up for the event, which consists of a variety of water related races, games, tours, and activities for people to enjoy. “Many towns are located near a lake, river, or estuary, while La Crosse is situated by all three, allowing for a variety of paddling experiences. We hope that the Catgut Paddle event encourages both residents and visitors to get out and experience the largest river in North America, view wildlife, and also connect with the larger paddling community,” says event committee member, Scott Cooper.
